8 Day Tour from Detroit to Chicago

2021 Tour Details View 2020 Tour Details »

Experience life in the fast and slow lanes as you venture to where the automobile was born and where it’s been banned since 1898. This tour of Mackinac Island and the Great Lakes gets your engines revving with a visit to Detroit’s Henry Ford Museum and an overnight at the elegant Dearborn Inn, built by Ford on the lush former grounds of the Ford Motor Company. Switch gears as you board a ferry for Mackinac Island, the Jewel of the Great Lakes and one of the nation’s most popular summer resorts. With horse-drawn carriages and bicycles as the island’s only means of transportation, you’ll have no choice but to fuel up on lunch at the famous Grand Hotel, military history at the restored Fort Mackinac, and the decadent fudge the charming island is known for. Other sweet detours include the Bavarian town of Frankenmuth, the coastal resort of Petoskey, and the faster-paced cities of Grand Rapids and Chicago.

We’ve prepared everything you need for the perfect vacation—from hand-selected hotels to expert Local Guides and included VIP sightseeing access to the world’s iconic sites. Your Globus Tour Director is always there to help you make the most out of your free time!

Accommodation Spotlight If the walls could talk at Chicago’s historic and elegant Palmer House (now Palmer House Hilton), we might learn a thing or two from former guests Ulysses S. Grant, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, and Sarah Bernhardt, to name a few! A member of the Historic Hotels of America and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Palmer House is considered the longest continually operating hotel in America and was Chicago’s first hotel to have electric lights, phones, and elevators. It’s also the birthplace of the chocolate brownie!

 Tour Director

With GLOBUS, there’s no better way to get to know your destination than through the eyes of a Tour Director. We’d like you to meet one of our Tour Directors, who average over a decade of experience and are representative of the type of expert that will be with you on your vacation.

HILLARY JOHNSON

Escorting tours for more than 20 years

During a summer in Ireland when I was 12, I was bitten by the "travel bug." I lived in Europe and became a Tour Director after graduating with a degree in European Languages. I am never as alive as when I am on the road. The haunting echo of a saxophone on a New Orleans street, the heady evening perfume of Jasmine in bloom, the sweet taste of a beignet, and the joyous "AA-eeeee!" of a Cajun dancer all need to be experienced... observing them from afar is not enough.
