Vacation Overview

Discover the heart of Canada’s Atlantic seacoast on this wonderful vacation. Begin your trip with a visit to Peggy’s Cove, a charming fishing village, before heading to Lunenburg, a picturesque town on the coast and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll also see the sights in Halifax before moving on to Moncton, New Brunswick. A definite highlight of this vacation will be your visit to Hopewell Rocks, home to the wildest tides in the world that can reach as high as 52 feet! Then, taking the 8-mile long Confederation Bridge, enjoy views of the Northumberland Strait, and arrive at Prince Edward Island, welcomed over a lobster dinner. The provincial capital of Charlottetown on this island envelops you with coastal beauty. Prince Edward Island, setting for the popular Anne of Green Gables novel, paints a picture you’ll never forget. Discover the Ceilidh Trail, where the first Scottish Highlanders made their mark, and then on to Cape Breton, which bears a surprising resemblance to Scotland’s landscape and seacoast. Keep your camera ready as you embark on the Cabot Trail, one of the most scenic drives in the world, and take in the Acadian culture and pride carried on the fresh island breeze. On your way back to Halifax, enjoy the scenic drive, stopping at Jeddore Oyster Pond to learn about the fisherman’s culture here. After a night in Halifax, board VIA Rail’s Ocean train for gorgeous views and a smooth overnight ride to Montreal. Spend a half day seeing the sights in this cosmopolitan city and enjoy its many charms and two overnights here—an incredible vacation!

DAY 1Arrive in Halifax

Welcome to Halifax! At 6 pm, meet your traveling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure.

DAY 2Halifax. Excursion to Peggy’s Cove & Lunenburg

This morning, visit PEGGY’S COVE, one of Canada’s most charming fishing villages. Enjoy a Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite traditional NOVA SCOTIA BREAKFAST, where you can choose local specialties like fish cakes and fish hash. Make sure to have your camera ready for spectacular shots of this famous lighthouse and picturesque setting. We then venture to Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During your free time here, explore the quaint Main Street, shop for souvenirs, or spend time at the Fisheries Museum to learn more about this major fishing port. Returning to Halifax, visit the CITADEL with its early 19th-century, star-shaped fort. The rest of the day is at leisure. Maybe visit the Maritimes Museum, which explains the area’s seafaring past, or perhaps tour Alexander Keith’s Brewery, which has been making the home-grown favorite since the early 1880s. DAY 3Halifax–Moncton

This morning, enjoy an orientation of Halifax, including the public gardens and harbor area. Before arriving in New Brunswick, we’ll stop at SUGAR MOON FARM to enjoy a Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite Maritime sugar camp lunch, along with a guided tour and traditional sugar camp treat. We spend the evening in Moncton, originally founded by a group of Acadians and then Pennsylvania Dutch immigrants from Philadelphia. Your Tour Director will have suggestions for the best way to spend your evening. (Breakfast, Lunch)

DAY 4Moncton–Hopewell Rocks–Charlottetown

This morning, travel to HOPEWELL ROCKS and learn about the highest and wildest tides in the world, which rise and fall up to 52 feet. Time and tide have carved from the cliffs and coves distinctive sandstone formations topped with trees. Many of the formations have nicknames inspired by their appearance. Learn more about the region’s nature and wildlife with a visit to CAPE JOURIMAIN. Drive across the 8-mile-long Confederation Bridge and cross onto Price Edward Island. Tonight, enjoy a Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite LOBSTER SUPPER at a local restaurant. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 5Charlottetown

A guided tour of the island includes a drive to the fishing port of North Rustico Harbour to see the sand dunes and lovely beaches of PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND NATIONAL PARK, along with a visit to GREEN GABLES farmhouse. Later, enjoy lunch at PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND PRESERVE COMPANY, and be treated to a traditional Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite CEILIDH—a folk music and storytelling party. You are sure to be entertained and to get your toes tapping! The rest of the day is at leisure to explore on your own, do some shopping, or relax in one of Charlottetown’s fine restaurants. DAY 6Charlottetown–Ceilidh Trail–Baddeck

This morning, board a FERRY that whisks you across the Northumberland Strait to Pictou, known as the “Birthplace of New Scotland.” It was here that the first boatload of Scottish Highlanders landed in Nova Scotia in 1773. Then, travel along Ceilidh Trail, where Scottish traditions and Gaelic folklore come alive. Upon arrival in Baddeck, visit the ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL MUSEUM, where exhibits trace the achievements of the great inventor who spent his last years on Cape Breton. (Breakfast, Dinner)


DAY 7Baddeck. Excursion to Cape Breton Highlands National Park

Travel along the CABOT TRAIL, considered one of the most scenic drives in the world. Proceed along the coast, savoring magnificent vistas of the rocky shoreline and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Enter CAPE BRETON HIGHLANDS NATIONAL PARK, a landscape that strikingly resembles Scottish coastal regions. At the Acadian village of Cheticamp, enjoy a Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite DEMONSTRATION on how the famous hand-hooked rugs are made, along with a traditional Acadian lunch. Tonight, perhaps join in a local Ceilidh in Baddeck. (Breakfast, Lunch)

DAY 8Baddeck–Jeddore Oyster Pond–Halifax

Cross over the Canso Causeway and travel along the scenic Marine drive south along the Atlantic shoreline. Stop at the FISHERMAN’S LIFE MUSEUM in Jeddore Oyster Pond. The museum showcases a typical Nova Scotia fisherman’s house from the early 1900s. Tonight, join your Tour Director and new friends at a festive farewell dinner—the perfect finale to your Maritimes vacation. (Breakfast, Dinner)


DAY 9Halifax–VIA Rail Ocean Train to Montréal

This afternoon, board VIA Rail’s Ocean train. Travel while sleeping in comfort and awaken in a different region of Canada! Ride across New Brunswick to Québec’s largest city, Montréal. Accommodation on the train is in a private sleeper car. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)


Days 10-11Montréal

Morning arrival and transfer to your hotel for the next two nights. During your stay, enjoy a hop-on/hop-off TROLLEY TOUR of the city. With your leisure time, you may want to discover the excellent restaurants, lively nightspots, and charming boutiques and galleries. Visit Notre Dame Basilica and Olympic Park, or try your luck at the Casino de Montréal. (Breakfast daily)

DAY 12Montréal

The trip ends today with guests departing on individual schedules. Transfers are provided to Montréal International Airport. (Breakfast)
