South American Escape with the Chilean Fjords (SBE3)

13 Day Tour from Rio de Janeiro to Santiago

2016 Tour Details View 2017 Tour Details »

On this South America vacation, discover two of the great cities—Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires—at a more leisurely pace, then finish up your tour with a cruise of the Chilean Fjords. You’ll have plenty of free time in each city to explore and experience the varied restaurants, shops, and optional excursions. Learn to dance the Tango in Buenos Aires, and experience a Samba show in Rio. Sip caipirinhas, a popular Brazilian cocktail; listen to the sounds of Rio; and watch people play soccer and volleyball on the famous Copacabana Beach. In Buenos Aires, see the Cemetery of the Recoleta, where Eva Peron is buried. Eva Peron was the illegitimate daughter of a poor provincial family. She came to Buenos Aires at the age of 15 to try her luck as a radio actress, and by the time she died at age 33, she was declared the “Spiritual Leader of the Nation.” You’ll learn more about her life on your sightseeing tour in Buenos Aires.

A major trip highlight is Iguassu Falls, one of the most spectacular sights on Earth. Meaning “Big Water” in the local dialect, there are 275 falls that cover a distance of over a mile and a half. A photograph cannot accurately portray this breathtaking sight—you must experience it for yourself! Hear the deafening roar and admire the brilliant rainbows created by the clouds of spray. After your visit of Iguassu and Buenos Aires, fly down to the “end of the world,” where a Chilean cruise awaits you. This region of Patagonia, with glaciers of dazzling white and electric blues, amazing wildlife, and fascinating Cape Horn—where thousands of islets and rocky cliffs dot the scenery—is a truly unforgettable experience. Among the impressive experiences you’ll have in this surrealistic and beautiful part of the world: Tierra del Fuego, waterfalls in Alakaluf Fjord, and the colony of Magellanic penguins you’ll see on a walk to the lighthouse that still guides ships through the Magellan Strait.

From the vibrant cities to the scenic beauty, this vacation to Rio de Janeiro, Iguassu Falls, Buenos Aires, and the Chilean Fjords will leave you with vacation memories you’ll cherish for life.

Favela Tour

Favela Tour

The Favela Tour reveals the way of life for around 20% of Rio's population. It changes the general idea that favelas are simply no-go areas dominated by criminals only, and opens a new perspective of Rio society. It is a tour to understand the city, its contrasts and paradoxes. The tour takes you to the community of Vila Canoas, with around 2.500 people, and Rocinha, the largest favela in Brazil, having around 85,000 people. Both are placed within the rich neighborhood of Sao Conrado. In Vila Canoas, walk through the narrow alleyways and get a good idea of its social initiatives that are also part of many Rio favelas. Once in Rocinha, the contrasts are more evident as much as we go higher and deeper inside. Visits include the community school, commercial center, and handicraft center. Its huge dimensions, wide variety of commerce and breathtaking view from the top is certainly impressive for any visitor.
