10 Day Tour from Athens to Athens

2016 Tour Details View 2017 Tour Details »

Stunning scenery, sun-soaked beaches, the crystal-clear Aegean Sea, and tasty Greek cuisine…on this Greek Islands tour, you’ll experience all of this and more!

Your tour starts in Athens with guided sightseeing and a visit to the Acropolis, dating back to the 5th century BC and a symbol of Athens’ power and wealth at its greatest peak—the Golden Age. The tour ends with a flight to Athens and an overnight. In between, sail into the deep-blue waters of the Aegean Sea and spend three nights on the island of Mykonos and three nights in Santorini.

Mykonos, Greece's most famous jet-set island, has a beautiful seafront village, sandy beaches, famous windmills, and whitewash houses. Here, you'll visit the Church of Agia Kiriaki, renowned for its beautiful icons, and have plenty of time to relax on the beach, walk through the network of narrow streets, sample local specialties, and take optional excursions. In Santorini, still an active volcano, stroll along the cobblestone streets, enjoy the beautiful beaches, savor the local specialties, enjoy tastings at famous wineries, and witness the stunning views.

A Greek Islands tour would not be complete without sampling the local cuisine. On both islands, you'll dine at a local restaurant, where you'll sample the local specialties. Globus has also included a couple of special treats: a traditional Mykonian dessert, Amygdalota, and a traditional Ouzo, Greece’s most popular drink, in Santorini.

If you are looking for a fantastic Greek Islands vacation, look no further. Globus handles the details so all you have to do is relax and enjoy these islands like they should be enjoyed.

Later, visit Ano Mera, the second largest village on the island and the most populated village on the island. You will have time to explore the several scattered settlements with the Cloister in the center and the Panagia Tourliani Monastery (15th century AC) named after the dome (tourlos in the Mykonian dialect) of the church, which is also the name of an Icon of Virgin Mary. This Icon is believed to be blessed or miraculous, as most people say in Greece, and many go there to pray. Later enjoy a lunch in the main square with traditional homemade Greek food.

Join your expert local guide on a tour of the archaeological excavation site known as Akrotiri a fascinating site on the island of Santorini. This Bronze Age settlement, from the 3rd millennium BC was destroyed in 1450 BC due to a massive volcanic eruption and was buried in volcanic ash. Nowadays the picturesque streets, the two- story buildings, the local frescoes and plenty of tools witness the ways of life in the prehistoric time. It is also known as the possible inspiration behind Plato's story of Atlantis, the legendary island first mentioned in the author's dialogues Timaeus and Critias, written in 360 BC. According to Plato, Atlantis was a naval power lying "across the Pillars of Hercules" that conquered many parts of Western Europe and Africa. After a failed attempt to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the ocean "in a single day and night of misfortune.

Cruise to Santorini Volcanoes and Hot Springs

Travel to the port of Athinios and board a traditional caique (wooden boat) for a cruise around the Nea Kameni volcano, the "newer" of the two small islands of lava in the basin of Santorini. Sail along its volcanic shores, where black lava rocks and white pumice combine beautifully with the red lava. Take a walk to the top of the island with your guide and learn its history. As your caique enters waters between Nea Kameni and the "older" Palea volcano, the color of the sea changes from dark blue to sulphur green.
