South Africa National Parks (SANParks)
Globus is partnering with South Africa National Parks (SANParks) and its Honorary Ranger program to help fight the increase in rhino poaching. Over the last decade, South Africa has seen a massive increase in rhino poaching, from a mere six animals in 2001 to over 400 in 2011. This is of particular concern considering estimates put the worldwide rhino population at just 20,000—a 90% decline since 1970. Of this number, around half reside in properties managed by SANParks in South Africa, making the organization's preservation efforts critical to the survival of this species.
As poachers continue to use more sophisticated methods, the fight to protect the rhino becomes an even greater challenge. To this end, the SANParks Honorary Rangers help supply the dedicated field rangers and counter-poaching teams with the valuable equipment that is essential to their success.
When you join any Globus escorted tour to South Africa or East Africa, we will make a contribution to the SANParks Honorary Rangers—at no additional cost to you. It's our way of showing support for the ongoing efforts to save this wonderful species from extinction.
