Vacation Overview

On this vacation to South America you’ll start by discovering the Amazon Jungle, a once-in-a-lifetime thrill! Cruise along the chocolate-colored Rio Negro to its confluence with the yellow-gray Rio Solimões, where the two rivers forming the Amazon meet. Watch for the captivating native flora and fauna. Also visit a rehabilitation center for primates and see spider, squirrel, woolly, and capuchin monkeys.

After your Amazon expedition, visit two of the great cities of Brazil and Argentina—Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires—at a more leisurely pace, then finish up your tour with a cruise of the Chilean Fjords. You’ll have plenty of free time in each city to explore on your own. Dance the Tango in Buenos Aires and experience a Samba show in Rio. Sip caipirinhas, a popular Brazilian cocktail, and watch people play soccer and volleyball on famous Copacabana Beach. In Buenos Aires, see the Cemetery of the Recoleta, where Eva Peron is buried, and discover more about her fascinating life on your sightseeing tour.

A major trip highlight is Iguassu Falls, one of the most spectacular sights on Earth. Meaning “Big Water” in the local dialect, there are 275 falls that cover a distance of over a mile and a half. A photograph cannot accurately portray this breathtaking sight—you must experience it for yourself! Hear the deafening roar and admire the brilliant rainbows created by the clouds of spray. After your visit of Iguassu and Buenos Aires, fly down to the “end of the world,” where a Chilean cruise awaits you. This region of Patagonia, with glaciers of dazzling white and electric blues, amazing wildlife, and fascinating Cape Horn—where thousands of islets and rocky cliffs dot the scenery—is a truly unforgettable experience. Among the impressive experiences you’ll have in this surrealistic and beautiful part of the world: Tierra del Fuego, waterfalls in Alakaluf Fjord, and the colony of Magellanic penguins you’ll see on a walk to the lighthouse that still guides ships through the Magellan Strait.

Beginning in the lush biodiversity of the Amazon, then to the vibrant cities of Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, the thundering waters of Iguassu Falls, and the Chilean Fjords at the southernmost tip of South America—this vacation will leave you with memories and a change in perspective that you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
