Vacation Overview

This unique vacation visits some of the most beautiful areas in the U.S., along with the majesty of an Alaskan cruise through the famed Inside Passage. From the most northwesterly point of Seattle, trek deeper into the lush and awe-inspiring Pacific Northwest. A highlight of this vacation will undoubtedly be your stay at Spokane’s historic Davenport Hotel, an architectural masterpiece combining luxury, impressive décor with hand-painted frescos, and contemporary comfort. From here, head to Whitefish and Glacier National Park, Montana, for several days of unbelievable landscapes and a plethora of fun-filled activities, like a BBQ, a cruise around Lake McDonald, and a vintage Red Jammer bus tour to the top of Logan Pass. Also stop in Wallace, where the story of a former brothel reveals some of the town’s colorful history. In Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, a pristine lake greets you, then head to Hells Canyon and the Snake River, the deepest river gorge in North America. Travel the same route as Lewis and Clark along the Snake River into Washington’s wine country, the second-largest producer of U.S. wines. Here you’ll meet some of the locals, learn about their land, and visit a winery for a tour and tasting! Return to Seattle, the perfect jumping-off point for your cruise to the vast territory of Alaska! Welcome to Seattle! At 6 pm, meet your traveling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure.

DAY 2Seattle–Leavenworth–Spokane

Depart Seattle and stop in the Bavarian village of Leavenworth, where you may choose to sample the local fare. Later, in Spokane, perhaps stroll along the banks of the Spokane River or ride the Gondola Skyride over some of the area’s waterfalls. Tonight, enjoy dinner at the Steam Plant Restaurant, a renovated historic landmark. (Breakfast, Dinner)

SPECIAL FEATURE: Your hotel this evening is the historic Davenport Hotel. Opened in 1914, this was the first hotel in the United States to have air-conditioning. Today, the Davenport continues its tradition of elegance, luxury, and contemporary comforts.

DAY 3Spokane–Sandpoint–Whitefish

Start the day with sightseeing of Spokane, including Riverfront Park, Spokane Falls, and Manito Park Gardens. Then, travel along the scenic Pend Oreille River into Idaho. Stop in pretty Sandpoint, where there’s time to browse the boutiques and galleries. Continue to Whitefish, Montana, just outside Glacier National Park, where you have a 3-night stay. (Breakfast)

DAY 4Whitefish. Explore Glacier National Park

A full day to explore the wonders of GLACIER NATIONAL PARK. Board the vintage RED JAMMER buses that take you along one of North America’s most spectacular highways: Going-to-the-Sun Road. After crossing 6,664-foot-high Logan Pass, enter a wonderland of alpine scenery, where jagged mountain peaks, deep-green forests, pristine lakes, and meadows dominate the landscape. Arrive at Lake McDonald for a scenic CRUISE on a historic wooden boat. Bask in the beauty as the captain shares the local history and folklore. This evening, enjoy a Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite hayride, cowboy sing-along, and old-fashioned ranch BBQ. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 5Whitefish

This morning, a guided tour of the CONRAD MANSION explores the historic elegance of a bygone era. Then, enjoy a GONDOLA ride to the top of Whitefish Mountain for fantastic views and photo opportunities. The rest of the day is free to explore on your own. Maybe play a round of golf, browse the art galleries and boutiques, or just relax at your resort. (Breakfast)

DAY 6Whitefish–Wallace–Coeur d’Alene

Depart Whitefish and travel along the spectacular shores of Flathead Lake. Stop in Wallace, Idaho, and tour the SIERRA SILVER MINE, where you’ll travel underground with an experienced miner and learn the history of mining in this region. For a unique reminder into Wallace’s colorful past, visit the Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite OASIS BORDELLO MUSEUM, a former brothel. The final occupants fled in a hurry, leaving belongings as if they planned to return. A short drive brings us to the beautiful shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. (Breakfast)

DAY 7Coeur d’Alene–Lewiston. Hells Canyon Cruise

Today brings an exciting CRUISE into Hells Canyon, home to North America’s deepest river gorge. Hugging the borders of Oregon and Idaho, Hells Canyon is more than 200,000 acres of high mountain peaks, ominous canyon rim-rocks, and breathtaking vistas. See ancient petroglyphs left by the Nez Perce Indians and enjoy your captain’s folklore tales. Watch for deer and bighorn sheep, then enjoy a BBQ lunch along the river, where you can enjoy the magnificent surroundings. (Breakfast, Lunch)

DAY 8Lewiston–Washington Wine Country

This morning, visit NEZ PERCE NATIONAL HISTORIC PARK and learn about the people who have called this home since the beginning of time. Cross into Washington and travel along the Snake River on the same route as Lewis & Clark. Visit the historic PATAHA FLOUR MILL, meet the family that works there, and enjoy a homemade lunch. DAY 12Juneau

Visit one of the most remote capital cities—Juneau. Accessible only by air and water, Juneau is located at the base of two towering mountains in the heart of Alaska’s Inside Passage, and is home to a rich Gold Rush history, Native culture, wildlife, and a wealth of natural wonders. Shop for gold nuggets, visit the stately Governor’s Mansion, saunter through the swinging doors of the historic Red Dog Saloon, or visit mighty Mendenhall Glacier, an impressive river of ice that is 12 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. DAY 13Scenic Cruising: Glacier Bay

This Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site protects a unique ecosystem in an ever-changing glacial landscape. Witness the spectacle of thunder and flying spray as huge slabs of ice break off and “calve” into the sea—making for lasting memories. National Park rangers accompany the ship, adding expert commentary to the day’s events. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
