Peking Opera Traditional Chinese theatre can be traced back to the Song and Yuan Dynasties of the late 13th century. During the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) the operatic form took hold in the Suzhou region of China thus developing into an artistic expression of the Chinese people. Opera of the time included many elements of local and provincial theatre and was superseded by what we now call Beijing or Perking Opera. Beijing opera is the marriage of music, song and dance, pantomime and acrobatics orchestrated into one elegant display of human emotion. Each component is distinctly different from its Western counterparts and therefore, your experience at the Beijing Opera is likely to be unfamiliar but gratifying nonetheless.
