Peking Opera Traditional Chinese theatre can be traced back to the Song and Yuan Dynasties of the late 13th century. During the Ming Dynasty (1368 8211 1644) the operatic form took hold in the Suzhou region of China thus developing into an artistic expression of the Chinese people. Opera of the time included many elements of local and provincial theatre and was superseded by what we now call Beijing or Perking Opera. Beijing opera is the marriage of music, song and dance, pantomime and acrobatics orchestrated into one elegant display of human emotion. Each component is distinctly different from its Western counterparts and therefore, your experience at the Beijing Opera is likely to be unfamiliar but gratifying nonetheless.

Traditional Cormorant Fishing Demonstration Take a short boat ride to see cormorant fishing, which is a unique and interesting activity in Guilin. The fishermen row slowly on a simple bamboo raft with several trained cormorant birds. A piece of grass is loosely tied around the bird's neck so they can't swallow big fish. When the cormorant catches a fish the fisherman will hook the bird on a stick and release the fish from the bird's mouth. Once the fisherman has captured the fish he allows the bird to return to the water to continue fishing. You will be amazed by this traditional Chinese method of fishing.
