Vacation Overview

Wildlife safaris aren’t just for Africa. Tucked away in the beautiful forests and islands of British Columbia, embark on a fantastic journey packed with opportunities to witness magnificent wildlife. Off the coast of Victoria, embark on a whale-watching cruise, and maybe see seals and porpoises; then, enjoy a visit to the Raptors Centre to learn about and see the most majestic and fascinating large bird species. In Pacific Rim National Park you can really take in the scenery, where powerful waves crash against the rugged coastline and breathtaking sunsets conclude each day. Some of the highlights of this vacation will be the quiet and intimate exploration of wild bears on a cruise through inlet bays, walking through massive forests of trees as old as 800 years, and playing in Campbell River—where you can bike, play a round of golf, or take to the river by kayak! Welcome to Vancouver. At 6 pm, meet your traveling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming wildlife adventure.

DAY 2Vancouver–Victoria

Enjoy an orientation tour of Vancouver, including Chinatown, Gastown, the beautiful beaches, harbor, and STANLEY PARK. Afterward, visit the VANCOUVER AQUARIUM, where you’ll have the chance to get up close to more than 50,000 amazing animals. Later, cruise across the Strait of Georgia past the rugged coastline and tranquil beaches of the Gulf Islands to Vancouver Island. Arrive in Victoria, where city sightseeing includes the Inner Harbour, Bastion Square, and Thunderbird Park. (Breakfast)

DAY 3Victoria

This morning, embark on a WHALE-WATCHING CRUISE on the Pacific Ocean. Keep your camera handy as you seek out orca, minke, humpback whales, seals, and porpoises. The rest of the day is free to explore this splendid city on your own. Later, visit world-famous BUTCHART GARDENS, an estate with more than 700 varieties of flowers on 55 acres. Enjoy dinner at the original Butchart family residence. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 4Victoria–Duncan–Tofino

Venture across Vancouver Island to the coast, stopping in Duncan, the “City of Totems,” where we’ll visit the Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite RAPTORS CENTRE to meet some amazing eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, and vultures. Learn about the essential role raptors play in the ecosystem. Next up: spectacular PACIFIC RIM NATIONAL PARK, the only national park on Vancouver Island. The full force of the mighty Pacific Ocean mercilessly pounds the ever-changing shores of this rugged coastline. The evening is free to explore Tofino. Maybe stroll along the beach and enjoy a spectacular sunset. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 5Tofino

Enjoy today’s highlight: BEAR WATCHING! You will travel quietly along fjord inlets, with stops in sheltered bays to look for bears. Watch closely; you may see them turn over large boulders in their search for crabs, clams, and beach barnacles. Your knowledgeable guide shares information about the bears and other inlet wildlife, including seals, eagles, porpoise, and heron. During free time, consider an optional flightseeing excursion or go kayaking. An included excursion to the KWISITIS VISITORS CENTRE is available for insight on the plants and animals in Pacific Rim Park as well as its geography and history. (Breakfast)

DAY 6Tofino–Coombs–Campbell River

This morning, a spectacular winding road takes you back to the eastern coast of Vancouver Island. Visit CATHEDRAL GROVE, home to incredible old-growth trees. The biggest in the grove is 800 years old and measures 250 feet in height and 29 feet in circumference. Next, a unique stop at the Old Country Market in Coombs, where you’ll enjoy a Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite local specialty and perhaps be entertained by the market’s rooftop residents. Continue to Campbell River, known as the “Salmon Capital of the World,” for an adventurous 3-night stay. The evening is free—maybe stroll down Discovery Pier for a chance to see salmon, eagles, or even whales. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 7Campbell River. Excursion to Telegraph Cove

Voted by travel writers as one of the 10 best communities in Canada to visit, Telegraph Cove is tucked away on the eastern coast of northern Vancouver Island in one of the last virtually untouched areas of North America. Embark on an exciting Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite SEA ADVENTURE in the “Whale Watching Capital” of British Columbia. Cruise the calm, protected waters of Johnstone Strait and the Blackfish Archipelago. Your trained Naturalist on board will identify and discuss the local marine mammals, sea birds, and wildlife. Watch for humpback whales, Stellar sea lions, dolphins, porpoises, bald eagles, and so much more. (Breakfast)

DAY 8Campbell River

Enjoy a full day at leisure to take in the breathtaking scenery and pursuits of the region. You may rent a bike, play golf, or journey to nearby Quadra Island. Continue the search for grizzly bears by joining today’s optional excursion (September to mid/late-October only). This evening, stroll along Campbell River’s scenic waterfront and relax in one of its charming restaurants or pubs. (Breakfast)

DAY 9Campbell River–Vancouver

This morning we make our way back to the mainland, sailing through picturesque Horseshoe Bay. Tonight, join your Tour Director for a festive farewell dinner, the perfect ending to your wildlife adventure. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 10Vancouver
