Excursion to Vienna Woods
Today, enjoy the fabulous natural scenery of the Vienna Woods. Drive south to Baden, famous for its thermal springs since Roman times. Visit the mystical Cistercian Holy Cross Abbey in the village of Heiligenkreuz, founded in 1133 by St. Leopold III of Babenberg. Also admire Mayerling, a former royal hunting lodge, famous for the commemorative chapel dedicated to the only son of Emperor Franz Joseph, Crown Prince Rudolph, who died there tragically in 1889.

Heurigen Dinner

Excursion to Berchtesgaden
On your drive out of Salzburg, the original wedding church of Maria von Trapp from the film the "Sound of Music" can be seen in the distance and on arrival in Hellbrunn you can also see the little garden house (gazebo) which featured in this classic film. Cross the border into Germany by way of the Durnberg-Hallein salt-mining area into the Berchtesgaden district in Bavaria to drive up to the scenic "Hohenring Road" (reaching a height of 4,500 ft.), stop to take in the magnificent alpine panorama including a view of the famous "Eagle's Nest". Drive down to Obersalzberg, the compound area of Hitler's second headquarters, to see a model of the area as it was before it was bombed in 1945 and return to Salzburg. **Please Note: In case of adverse weather conditions, a visit to the part of the underground shelter system of the Nazis (security service and state police bunker) will be substituted for the drive up to the Hohenringstrasse.

Excursion to Berchtesgaden with visit to Eagle's Nest
On your drive out of Salzburg, spot off in the distance the original Maria von Trapp's convent and wedding church (possible photo stop). Cross the border to the Berchtesgaden district in Bavaria. Stop on Obersalzberg, the compound area of Hitler's second headquarters, to see a model of the area as it was before bombing in 1945. Then, special buses transport you up the private road to Hitler's "Eagle's Nest." Enter the original tunnel and elevator that goes up into the actual building. At the top, stop to view the magnificent panorama and to walk along the ridge to enjoy the view of the Austrian and Bavarian Alps. Return to Salzburg by way of the Durnberg-Hallein salt-mining area, where Celtic tribes had settlements 2,500 years ago. Hear the story of the Von Trapp family and pass by buildings seen in The Sound of Music.
