With your local expert, see its main landmarks, including the early 13th-century San Lorenzo Cathedral with its black-and-white striped marble facade, opera house, Palace of the Doges, house where Christopher Columbus is said to have been born, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Strada Nuova, a street lined with Renaissance and Baroque mansions, called the Rolli Palaces, built by the local nobility during the 16th to 18th centuries.
