Vacation Overview

Polar bears are the world’s largest land carnivore, and now’s your chance to see them up close! On this vacation, discover unspoiled landscapes, clean air, pure water, and the “Land of Nanook”—the polar bear. Each October and November, roughly 1,200 polar bears descend upon the small town of Churchill in anticipation of the refreezing of the Hudson Bay. You’ll have the opportunity to board the famous Tundra Buggy to seek out the polar bears playing, rolling in the snow, and even inspecting the buggy. You’ll also have a chance to learn about the Intuit and the culture in Churchill, and enjoy a dogsledding excursion. Just imagine the stories and photos you’ll be able to share with friends when you return from this amazing vacation—it’s a trip of a lifetime!

DAY 1Winnipeg

Welcome to Winnipeg! Set on the banks of the Red River, the name “Winnipeg” stems from the aboriginal words win, meaning muddy, and nipee, meaning waters. Founded by the North West Company, Winnipeg has grown to be a city of approximately 600,000 people. At 6 pm this evening, enjoy a welcome drink with your Tour Director and an orientation talk on your upcoming polar bear adventure.

DAY 2Winnipeg–Churchill

This morning, board a flight to Churchill, located on the western shore of Hudson Bay. Called the “Land of Nanook,” meaning polar bear, this sub-arctic region is famed for its vast tundras, pure air, and the estimated 1,200 polar bears that gather here every October and November to wait for the ice to thicken. Upon arrival, enjoy a tour of the town and local area. Visit CAPE MERRY NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE, established in 1746, and the world-renowned Polar Bear Compound. This afternoon, visit the ESKIMO MUSEUM and see a collection of Inuit carvings and artifacts that is among the finest and oldest in the world. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant. DAY 3Churchill

Board the famous TUNDRA BUGGY and seek out the amazing polar bear. Your driver guide will use their vast experience to position the buggy for the most advantageous views for photography. See the bears playing, rolling in the snow, and even inspecting the Tundra Buggy as you learn how they thrive in this unforgiving landscape. This unique vehicle is heated, restroom-equipped, and has a viewing platform on the back. Lunch is included on board the buggy today. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 4Churchill

After breakfast this morning, enjoy a Globus Local FavoriteGlobus Local Favorite DOGSLEDDING excursion. Meet a team of sled dogs, hear stories, and learn dog-handling philosophy from an expert. Enjoy a dogsled ride through the northern boreal forest, along with hot chocolate and freshly made bannock—similar to a scone. Learn more about these incredible animals and the important role they play in this region of the world. Also visit the PARKS CANADA INTERPRETIVE CENTRE, where you’ll learn more about the history, wildlife, and culture of the Churchill area. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 5Churchill–Winnipeg

A second day out on the TUNDRA BUGGY offers the opportunity to observe the Great White Bear and the relationship it forms with other wildlife species. If you’re lucky, perhaps see the arctic hare, snowy owl, or caribou that live in this rugged area. Late this afternoon, board a flight and return to Winnipeg. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 6Winnipeg

The tour ends today with guests departing on individual schedules. Transfers are provided to Winnipeg Airport. (Breakfast)
